Bangladesh womenโ€™s team player Shoheli Akhtar has been banned for 5 years after being accused of fixing. Shoheli Akhtar is accused of match-fixing during the Womenโ€™s T20 World Cup 2023 in South Africa. After which 36-year-old Shoheli accepted the allegations during the investigation.

Talking about Shoheli Akhtar, she has taken a total of 11 wickets in two ODIs and 13 T20s for the Bangladesh team. She last played for Bangladesh in the Womenโ€™s Asia Cup 2022 against Sri Lanka at the Sylhet International Stadium on October 10.

Details of the Match-Fixing Scandal

Shoheli has violated ICCโ€™s Articles (2.1.1), (2.1.3), (2.1.4), (2.4.4) and (2.4.7). Which includes match-fixing or conspiracy in any way and deliberate poor performance. Apart from this, demanding bribes or another reward, improperly influencing the result, progress, conduct or any other aspect of any international match.

According to the statement, Akhtar said that her cousin who bets on his phone has asked her to talk and that if she gets hit a wicket then she will get 20 lakh Bangladeshi Taka. This money will come from the betting placed by her cousin.

Akhtar told that player that her cousin can also give more than 20 lakh rupees provided she agrees to do so. Akhtar had said that this matter would remain completely secret. Akhtar then asked her to delete the message, which she also did.

According to ICC, the player whom Akhtar had approached did not listen and rejected the proposal. He informed the ACU about this matter and also provided evidence of voice notes in this regard. When ACU spoke to Akhtar, he confessed his crime, but he also said that he did this so that he could tell his cousin that the Bangladeshi team was not involved in any kind of match-fixing.

Akhtar told ACU that this challenge happened between him and his friend and that is why he did this. He also presented screenshots in this regard. But when these screenshots were investigated, it was found that they were fake.
