In the ICC ODI World Cup, Pakistan faced England in their last league match. Unfortunately, Pakistan lost, and England secured their spot in the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Pakistan had a tough target to reach within 40 balls to qualify for the semi-finals. However, it proved impossible, and their journey in the tournament came to an end. Abdullah Shafiq (0) and Fakhar Zaman (1) couldn’t contribute much. Captain Babar Azam managed 38 runs, and Mohammad Rizwan scored 36 before getting out. With Saud Shakeel’s dismissal at 29, half of Pakistan’s team was back in the pavilion at 126 runs in 27.5 overs. Harris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim Jr added 53 runs for the tenth wicket, but Pakistan ultimately reached 244 runs in 43.3 overs, and England won by 93 runs.
In the first innings, England’s David Malan (31) and Jonny Bairstow (59) had an 82-run partnership. Joe Root and Ben Stokes then added 132 runs for the third wicket. Stokes, who scored a century in the previous match, made 84 runs with 11 fours and 2 sixes. Joe Root contributed 60 runs before being dismissed by Shaheen. England posted a total of 337/9 in 50 overs.
