Pakistan’s journey in the ICC ODI World Cup concludes as they exit the tournament. To secure a spot in the semi-finals, they needed to chase down England’s target of 338 runs within 6.4 overs. Unfortunately, they could only manage 30 for 2 in 7 overs, resulting in their elimination.
Consequently, they’ll be heading back directly from Kolkata. The upcoming semi-finals on November 15 will see India vs. New Zealand in Mumbai and Australia vs. South Africa in Kolkata.
In the match against England, David Malan (31) and Jonny Bairstow (59) formed an 82-run partnership. Joe Root and Ben Stokes contributed 132 runs for the third wicket. Stokes, the centurion from the previous match, scored 84 runs with 11 fours and 2 sixes.
Joe Root added 60 runs before Shaheen dismissed him. Jos Buttler and Harry Brook shared a 42-run partnership in 26 balls. Brook scored 30 runs off 17 balls, and Buttler was run out for 27 runs in 17 balls. England posted a total of 337/9 in 50 overs.
Reflecting on Pakistan’s ODI World Cup history, they fell short of reaching the semi-finals in 2003, 2007, 2015, 2019, and now in 2023. In 2011, they faced defeat in the semi-finals.
