Key Moments and Performances

Team India defeated South Africa in the final to lift their first ICC trophy since 2013. Virat Kohli’s bat, which was cold throughout the tournament, faltered in the final. Akshar Patel played a match-winning all-round performance. Young Rohit Sharma, who lifted the World Cup as a player in the 2007 World Cup, was watched by an emotional world as he lifted the trophy as a captain in 2024. The sadness of the missed opportunity in the 2011 ODI World Cup must have finally gone away from his mind. The team sent off the head coach Rahul Dravid with the title trophy. Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah pulled the match out of Africa’s hands. Suryakumar Yad’s catch in the 20th over was enough to defeat Africa. Chasing India’s 176 for 7, Africa could only manage 169 for 8 and India won the match by 7 runs. Africa wanted to score 16 runs in 6 balls. The very first ball bowled by Hardik was sent across the boundary by David Miller, but Suryakumar Yadav took an amazing catch. Miller (21) walked off the field in tears. Hardik took another wicket in the 20th over to seal India’s victory.
