Harmanpreet Kaur’s Century Powers India to 318/5 in Series-Decider Against England

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Century: India Women put up a commanding total of 318/5 in the third and final ODI against England Women at Chester-le-Street, thanks to a brilliant century by captain Harmanpreet Kaur. With the series levelled at 1-1, this match is the decider, and the visitors have certainly laid down the challenge with the bat.
India’s Batting Performance: A Dominant Display
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, India came out with clear intent. Their batters built partnerships, maintained a healthy run rate, and capitalised in the final overs to post their highest total of the series.
India began well with openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal laying a solid foundation. The pair added 64 runs for the first wicket before Pratika fell for 26. Smriti looked fluent in her 45-run knock, striking the ball sweetly before being dismissed.
After the departure of the openers, Harleen Deol and Harmanpreet Kaur took control. The duo stitched an 81-run partnership, with Harleen contributing 45 runs. Once Harleen departed, Jemimah Rodrigues joined the captain, and the momentum shifted firmly in India’s favour.
Harmanpreet Kaur’s Commanding Century
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur led by example with a sensational 102 off 84 balls, smashing 14 boundaries. She was composed early on but accelerated perfectly in the second half of her innings. Her leadership with the bat was crucial in pushing India past the 300-run mark.
Jemimah Rodrigues supported well with a 50 off just 45 balls, while Richa Ghosh added the fireworks at the end. Richa scored an unbeaten 38 from only 18 deliveries, including 3 fours and 2 sixes. Radha Yadav added a few runs as India closed their innings at 318/5 after 50 overs.
England Bowlers Struggle Under Pressure
The English bowling attack found it difficult to contain the flow of runs. While every bowler managed to pick up a wicket, they couldn’t apply consistent pressure. Sophie Ecclestone, Sarah Glenn, Kate Cross, Lauren Bell, and Nat Sciver-Brunt all ended with a wicket apiece but gave away runs at over 6 per over.
England Face a Huge Chase in Decider
Chasing 319 in an ODI is always a stiff task, and doing it in a series decider adds more pressure. England have the batting depth, but they will need one or two big innings from their top-order batters to stay in the contest.
India has put itself in a strong position. After winning the T20I series 3-2, they now stand on the verge of clinching the ODI series as well. A disciplined bowling effort will be key to sealing the series win.
