Jasprit Bumrah Overtakes Ashwin to Become World No. 1 in ICC Test Rankings

ICC has announced the Test cricket rankings, till now India’s veteran spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin was at number 1 in the Test rankings, but now an Indian bowler has overtaken him in the rankings and occupied the first position. Ashwin bowled brilliantly in the recently concluded Test series against Bangladesh, but Bumrah also wreaked havoc with his speed. Jasprit Bumrah has overtaken Ashwin to occupy the first position in the latest ICC Test rankings.

India’s Strong Presence in Test Rankings

According to the ICC, Bumrah overtook his teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and topped the list for the second time after taking six wickets in the match during India’s recent seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in Kanpur. The win against Bangladesh included Bumrah’s three wickets per inning. Ashwin took five wickets in that match and is only one point behind Bumrah’s rating of 870 points, while Bangladesh will be boosted by the ranking improvements of Mehdi Hasan (up four places to 18th) and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan (up five places to 28th)

World Test Championship Race Heats Up

With the win over Bangladesh, India has moved further ahead at the top of the World Test Championship table and are well placed to make it to their third consecutive final. Opener Jaiswal was adjudged Player of the Match during the rain-affected Test against Bangladesh and the left-handed batsman has jumped two places to third spot in the updated Test batsman rankings to achieve a new career-high rating. He scored 72 and 51 in the match.
