India Clinches ODI Series with 99-Run Win Over Australia

In the second match of the three-match ODI series between India and Australia, the Indian team clinched victory by defeating Australia by 99 runs.

IND vs AUS: Indian Team Avenges Previous Defeat

Australia had previously defeated the Indian team 2-1 in the 3-match ODI series in March. To avenge this defeat in India, they secured this series in their name. 

The match between India and Australia on Sunday, September 24th, at Holkar Stadium in Indore was interrupted by rain, leading to India’s win by 99 runs based on the Duckworth-Lewis rule. This marks India’s seventh win in bilateral series against Australia.

Alongside the series victory, India also avenged their loss to Australia in the ODI series earlier this year. The Kangaroo team had defeated India 2-1 in the three-match ODI series in March. The third and final match of the current series between the two teams will be played in Rajkot on Wednesday, September 27th.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer Partnership

After winning the toss, Australia invited the Indian team to bat first. India scored 399 runs for five wickets in 50 overs. Due to rain, Australia was given a target of 317 runs in 33 overs under the Duckworth-Lewis rule. Australia’s team was reduced to 213 runs in 28.2 overs.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer performed brilliantly with the bat for India. Shubman Gill scored 104 runs off 97 balls, while Shreyas Iyer scored 105 runs off 90 balls. Captain KL Rahul played an excellent innings, scoring 52 runs off 38 balls. Suryakumar Yadav also batted brilliantly for the Indian team, playing an unbeaten inning of 72 runs off 37 balls, including 6 fours and 6 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 13 runs.

The Indian team added 54 runs in the last 5 overs. Cameron Green took 2 wickets while bowling for Australia, and Josh Hazlewood, Sean Abbott, and Adam Zampa each took one wicket.

Sean Abbott scored 54 runs, and David Warner scored 53 runs for the Australian team, which was chasing the target of 317 runs in 33 overs. Marnus Labuschagne contributed 27 runs, and Josh Hazlewood added 23 runs. Cameron Green contributed 19 runs, and Alex Carey added 14 runs to the team’s account.

Matthew Short returned to the pavilion after scoring 9 runs, Josh English scored 6, and Adam Zampa scored 5 runs. Captain Steve Smith was unable to open his account. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja bowled aggressively for India, with each of them taking 3 wickets for Australia. Prasidh Krishna took 2 wickets, and Mohammed Shami managed to take one wicket.

The Indian team’s excellent performance continues in Indore, with this marking their seventh victory on this ground. The team had previously played an ODI match here in 2006 and had never faced defeat in the seven total ODI matches played at this venue. India secured their second win against Australia at Holkar Stadium in Indore in 2017, defeating Australia by 5 wickets.
