Kolkata Knight Riders have registered their name on the IPL trophy for the first time since 2012 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. In the final match of the 17th season of IPL, KKR won the trophy by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets.

Decisive Performance by KKR’s Batsmen

Sunrisers Hyderabad challenged KKR for 114 runs. KKR overcame this challenge easily. KKR scored 114 runs for the loss of one wicket in 10.3 overs. This was KKR’s third overall IPL trophy win and the second time since 2012 when they won the final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. KKR won the IPL trophy for the first time by defeating Chennai in 2012.

The opening pair of Sunil Narine and Rahmanullah Gurubaz entered the field for Kolkata. KKR lost the first wicket early. Narine was out after scoring 6 runs while KKR scored 11 runs. After this Gurubaz and Venkatesh Iyer made a decisive partnership of 91 runs for the second wicket. Then Rahmanullah Gurubaz returned after scoring 39 runs on 32 balls. Then captain Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer led KKR to victory. Venkatesh played an unbeaten half-century of 52 runs in 26 balls. Shreyas returned unbeaten on 6 runs. Captain Pat Cummins and Shahbaz Ahmed took 1-1 wicket for Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the toss, and captain Pat Cummins chose to bat. But KKR bowlers termed Hyderabad’s decision wrong. Kolkata bowlers bowled out Hyderabad for 113 runs in 18.3 overs. For Hyderabad, Pat Cummins contributed 24 runs, Aiden Markram contributed 20 runs, Heinrich Klaasen contributed 16 runs and Nitish Reddy contributed 13 runs. Whereas for KKR, Andre Russell took a maximum of 3 wickets. Mitchell Starc and Harshit Rana took 2-2 wickets. Sunil Narine, Varun Chakraborty, and Mitchell Starc took 1 wicket each.
