Mohammad Nabi Delays Retirement, Wants to Play With His Son

Mohammad Nabi Son:  Afghanistan team’s veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi announced in November last year that he would retire from ODI International cricket after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But it seems that now he has a different plan and perhaps that is why he has taken a U-turn from retirement.

Mohammad Nabi’s Retirement U-Turn

Speaking to the ICC, Nabi said, β€œThis may not be my last ODI tournament (Champions Trophy) and I will probably play fewer ODIs and give the youth a chance to gain experience. I have discussed this with the senior players and in high-level games, maybe or maybe not, we will see.

It will depend on my fitness. This is my dream (to play for the country together with my son) and hopefully, we will be able to fulfil it. He is doing very well, he works hard and I am also motivating him to work hard.” He further said, β€œI want him to set his own goals, if you want to become a high-level cricketer, you have to work hard.

Scoring 50 or 60 runs is not enough, you have to score more than 100 runs. He listens to me all the time and motivates me. When he talks to me, I try to give him advice to give him confidence for the game.

Mohammad Nabi’s Dream to Play With His Son

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) believes that age is just a number for veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, as he has decided to take a U-turn from his ODI retirement plan. Nabi’s next target is to play ODI International cricket for Afghanistan along with his son.

The ACB had earlier confirmed to Cricbuzz that Nabi wants to retire from the 50-over format of the game after the Champions Trophy starting on Wednesday, February 19. However, Mohammad Nabi recently told the ICC that he would like to continue playing even after the Champions Trophy and wants to represent Afghanistan along with his 18-year-old son Hasan Isaakhil. Nabi’s son Isaakhil represented Afghanistan as an opener in the Under-19 World Cup in 2024 but scored only 43 runs in four matches.
