Ponting on Gambhir: Former India and Australia cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Ricky Ponting recently made headlines when the former came forward and slammed Ponting for questioning India’s top batsman Virat Kohli’s form ahead of BGT 2024-25.
Rickey said that in the form that Kohli is in, no other player can be in the Indian Test team, after which Gambhir immediately dismissed him, asking Ponting what he had to do with Indian cricket and why he should get more attention in Australian cricket.
Ponting Responds: Surprised but Unfazed
After seeing Gambhir’s reaction, Ponting took centre stage and called him a ‘prickly’ person. He revealed that he was very surprised to see Gambhir’s reaction to his recent comments. “I was surprised to read the reaction,
I know coach Gautam Gambhir… he is a very prickly person, so I was not surprised that he had said something,” Ponting told 7 News.
Moreover, Ponting also clarified that his comments against Kohli were in no way against him.
“It was not a knock on him (Virat) in any way. I followed it up by saying that he has played well in Australia and he is looking forward to coming back here… If you ask Virat, I am sure he will not be able to score a century like in previous years. I would be a little worried,” Ponting said.
“So it’s amazing how little things can change, but he’s a great player and he’s played well in Australia before,” he said.
It is worth noting that India will begin their tour against Australia in Perth on November 22. India will enter the series after a whitewash against New Zealand at home
