R Ashwin in the Hundred League: After retiring from the IPL, veteran Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has shown interest in playing in the Hundred competition in England. At 38, Ashwin wants to explore new opportunities in franchise cricket and has kept The Hundred as a prime target.

The 2025 edition of The Hundred will introduce significant changes, as franchises are undergoing rebranding following sales to new investors. Notably, several of these teams have been partly or fully acquired by Indian groups that also own franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Ashwin Targets England’s Franchise League

This development enhances the possibility of attracting strong bids for cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, whose experience and reputation would greatly benefit the tournament. Reports indicate that top players in The Hundred could earn up to £200,000, making it a financially appealing opportunity for Ashwin.

The England and Wales Cricket Board has long hoped for an Indian player to feature in their domestic league. However, the BCCI does not allow active Indian players to participate in overseas franchise cricket. Since Ashwin has retired from both international and IPL cricket, he now has the chance to take part without any restrictions.

With fresh investments and rising global popularity, The Hundred is aiming to become the second-biggest cricket league after the IPL. Adding a player like Ashwin, known for his sharp cricketing mind and vast T20 experience, would bring credibility and fan interest.

Ashwin’s Legacy and Future Goals

Ashwin is already a legend in Indian cricket. Throughout his 333 T20 matches, he has taken 317 wickets with an impressive economy rate of just 7.11. His ability to outthink batters and adapt to different conditions makes him a valuable asset for any team.

Recently, Ashwin mentioned that every ending creates a new beginning. Although his IPL journey has concluded, his desire to continue contributing to cricket in new ways remains strong. Joining The Hundred could signal the start of an exciting new chapter in his career while also helping to enhance the league’s global stature.
