Rajeev Shukla Denies Rift Between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir

Rift Between Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla said on Monday that there is no dispute between Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Rohit Sharma.

Not only this, the senior BCCI official also extended his support to Indian team captain Rohit Sharma, who is currently struggling with poor form.

BCCI Backs Rohit Sharma Despite Poor Form

In the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India suffered a crushing 3-1 defeat against Australia. Rohit Sharma played three matches in this series and scored only 31 runs. Due to poor form, Rohit ruled himself out of the fifth and final Test played in Sydney, but the team lost there too as Bumrah was unable to bowl in the second innings.

No Rift Between Rohit and Gambhir, Says Rajiv Shukla

Due to Rohitโ€™s poor performance, there were also speculations that all was not well between him and Gambhir. On this, Rajiv Shukla said, โ€œThis is a completely wrong statement. There are no differences between the chairman of the selection committee (Ajit Agarkar) and the coach, and also there is no difference between the captain and the coach. This is all nonsense that is being spread in one section of the media.

There are also speculations that Gambhir had given an ultimatum to the senior players to perform well or be ready to be dropped. Responding to this question, Rajeev Shukla said, โ€œIt is wrong that Rohit has insisted on captaincy.

He is the captain. Being in or out of form is an integral part of the game. When he (Rohit) saw that he was not in form, he pulled himself out of the fifth Test.

Shukla also concluded that a review meeting was recently completed to assess the teamโ€™s performance. โ€œWe discussed the way forward and ways to do better,โ€ he said. On January 11, BCCI held a review meeting on BGT. India lost 3-0 at home against New Zealand and then lost the series 3-1 in Australia after 10 years.
