The Ranji Trophy kicked off with thrilling matches across different groups. Here’s a recap of the performances and scorecards from Day 1.

Elite Group A

The defending winner Mumbai has started well against Baroda. Fast bowlers Shardul Thakur and Mohit Awasthi made him the first two successes, while spin pair Shams Mulani and Tanush Kotian achieved two successes. Baroda’s wicketkeeper Mitesh Patel scored 86 runs and by the end of the day, the past Sheth was unbeaten after scoring 60 runs.

At the same time, Jammu and Kashmir opener Shubham Khajuria, batting all day against Maharashtra, remained unbeaten by scoring 130 runs and his team scored 264/5 till the stump. Meghalaya has scored 298 runs for 4 wickets for stumps against Services thanks to Ravi Chauhan (113) and Rajat Paliwal (86*). Due to rain and wet outfield, no game between Tripura and Odisha was possible on the first day.

Elite Group B

Manan Hingrajia of Gujarat performed well against Hyderabad in Elite Group B. Manan scored his highest first-class score of 174. Gujarat has scored 334 runs at the loss of 8 wickets by the end of the day’s play.

Himachal Pradesh batsmen dominated the match against Uttarakhand and scored a huge score of 300-1 by the end of the day. Opener Shubham Arora and Prashant Chopra both scored centuries, while Prashant Chopra is still unbeaten. Ankit Kalsi also scored an unbeaten half-century.

Rajasthan bowlers harassed Puducherry. Khalil Ahmed, Aniket Chaudhary, and Manav Suthar took two wickets each. Opener Ajay Rohera was unbeaten at 84 runs at the time of stumps. Last season’s finalist Vidarbha was piled by Andhra Pradesh for just 118 runs, with captain Akshay Wadkar’s unbeaten 46 runs. Until the stumps, Andhra only scored 114 runs losing the wicket of Hanuma Vihari.

Elite Group C

Madhya Pradesh’s strong batting lineup was shocked by Vasuki Kaushik, the famous Krishna, and Vijayakumar Vaishakh of Karnataka. However, the team was handled by Harpreet Singh Bhatia (75*), Shubham Sharma (40), and Rajat Patidar (31). In Lucknow, Bengal opener Abhimanyu Ishwaran failed to maintain his good form in the Iranian Cup and Dalip Trophy. He became the victim of Yash Dayal by scoring five runs, while fellow opener Sudeep Chatterjee and third number Sudeep Kumar Gharani scored 116 and 90 runs respectively.

Despite being in a good position at the score of 212/1 at one time, the Bengal team soon stumbled, as leg-spinner Wipraj Nigam took 4 wickets for 59 runs in 16 overs, leading to the score of 269/7 till the stumps.

A total of 17 wickets fell in Rohtak, in which Haryana piled Bihar for just 78 runs. Anshul Kamboj and Aman Kumar together conveyed 5-35 runs in 16 overs. Haryana has scored 184-7 by the end of the day’s play.

Elite Group D

Jharkhand performed well in batting against Assam and scored 247 runs for 3 wickets till the stumps. The railway was dismissed for 142 against Chandigarh, in which Yuvraj Singh scored 55 runs. Experienced batsman of Saurashtra failed to leave the Pujara influence. Sai Kishore bowled him for 16 runs.
