Ricky Ponting Rules Out England Coaching Job, Eyes Return to IPL

Ricky Ponting Rules Out England Coaching Role

Ricky Ponting Rules Out England Coaching Role

Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting has made it clear that he has no interest in becoming the next white-ball coach for England’s men’s team. After Matthew Mott’s departure, there was speculation that Ponting could be a candidate for the role, but the former World Cup-winning captain has ruled it out, citing his current commitments and the time demands of international coaching.

Ponting explained that taking on an international coaching role would require too much time away from home, something he is not willing to sacrifice at this point in his life. “International jobs aren’t really where my life is because they take up too much time. I’ve got other commitments with my TV work and things I do, and I want to balance that with time at home,” Ponting said in an interview on the ICC Review Show.

Focus on IPL and Other Commitments

Despite his departure from the Delhi Capitals after a seven-year stint, Ricky Ponting is still eager to return to coaching, particularly in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He expressed his love for the IPL and his desire to coach there again, even after a challenging time with Delhi Capitals, where his efforts to bring home a trophy fell short.

Ricky Ponting also recently led the Washington Freedom team to victory in the second season of Major League Cricket (MLC) in the USA and still has a year left on his contract with the team. With his plate already full, Ponting is focusing on opportunities that align with his existing commitments and allow him to stay close to home.

Delhi Capitals Likely to Opt for Indian Coach

Ricky Ponting hinted that the Delhi Capitals might be looking for an Indian coach for the next IPL season. He shared that the franchise is looking for someone who can dedicate more time during the off-season, especially with the local players in India. “I couldn’t do that with the other things I’m doing, so I think they’ll probably end up with an Indian-based head coach,” Ponting said.

While his time with Delhi Capitals didn’t yield the results he hoped for, Ricky Ponting is grateful for the experience and the relationships he built during his tenure. He remains open to returning to the IPL in the future and is looking forward to new opportunities that may arise.
