Rishabh Pant’s Heroic Knock Inspires India in 4th Test vs England

Rishabh Pant in 4th Test: India is in a do-or-die situation in the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. To stay alive in the series, India must either win or at least draw this match. With pressure building, several Indian batters stepped up in the first innings, taking India to 358 runs in 114.1 overs.
Sai Sudharsan played a composed knock of 61 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed 58, Rishabh Pant added a gritty 54, and KL Rahul chipped in with 46. However, a moment of concern arose when Rishabh Pant suffered a foot injury and had to retire hurt after scoring 37 runs on Day 1. This increased India’s tension as they had to continue with only 10 batters.
But Pant returned to the crease later, pushing aside the pain and showing incredible determination. He went on to score 54 runs in 75 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes. His half-century came in 69 balls, marking his 18th Test fifty.
Pant Breaks MS Dhoni’s Record Against SENA Countries
With his 54-run knock, Rishabh Pant became the first Indian wicketkeeper to score 14 half-centuries in Tests against SENA countries (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia), breaking MS Dhoni’s record of 13 fifties.
The list now stands as:
-
Rishabh Pant – 14 fifties
-
MS Dhoni – 13
-
John Waite – 12
-
Adam Gilchrist – 11
-
Dinesh Ramdin – 10
Pant’s consistency overseas continues to highlight his importance in the Indian Test side.
Pant’s Six on One Foot – A Moment to Remember
Despite his injury, England bowlers, especially Jofra Archer, tried to target Pant’s injured toe with yorkers. On the third ball of the 110th over, Pant barely managed to survive. But the very next ball, he smashed a stunning six over long-on, showing pure courage and class.
With that six, Pant equalled Virender Sehwag’s record of 90 sixes in Test cricket, becoming one of India’s most attacking batters in red-ball cricket.
His brave knock will be remembered as one of the finest moments of India’s fightback in the series.
