Rohit Sharma Opens Up About T20I Retirement Decision
Indian team captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after the T20 World Cup 2024. Rohit had said that he will no longer play T20 at the international level. This decision was taken by Rohit after making India the world champion. At that time it seemed that Rohit had said goodbye to a format with increasing age, but this right-handed batsman has now told the real reason for that decision.
Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India won the T20 World Cup 2024 played jointly hosted by the West Indies and USA. Team India was able to lift this trophy after 17 years. After this, Rohit and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from T20 International.
Rohit Sharma recently gave an interview to a YouTube channel named FITTR in which he talked about the decision to retire. When the anchor asked him if he announced his retirement from T20 International due to increasing age? On this, Rohit Sharma said, “No, no. I retired from T20 International because my time was up. I enjoy playing this format. I played for 17 years. When you win the World Cup, it is the right time to move forward. You can look at some different things. Many good players can do well for India.”
Rohit added, “I felt that this was the right time. I can still play all three formats easily. That’s why I say that fitness is in your mind and how you train. I think everything is in our minds. I have a lot of confidence in myself because I know how to control my mind. It is not easy. But I can do it most of the time.”
Rohit’s Focus on Champions Trophy and ICC Test Championship
Rohit Sharma is captaining ODIs and Tests for India. His eyes will be on the Champions Trophy to be held next year. Team India has not won the Champions Trophy since 2013. In 2017, India reached the final but lost to Pakistan. This time Rohit will try to win this title. Rohit will also want to make India win the ICC Test Championship where India has faced defeat in the final twice.
