Mumbai Leaves Sarfaraz Khan Out of Ranji Trophy Team
Mumbai cricket team had won the Irani Cup by defeating Rest of India a few days ago. The hero of this victory of the team was Sarfaraz Khan who scored a double century in the first innings. But even after this, Mumbai has not given Sarfaraz a place in the team for the Ranji Trophy. Mumbai Cricket Association has announced the team for the first two matches of Ranji Trophy.
Mumbai will play as the defending champion and won the last Ranji trophy under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane. Mumbai won the Irani Cup under Rahaneโs captaincy. This time also Rahane has been given the captaincy.
Sarfaraz Likely to Join Team India
When Mumbai announced its Ranji team for the first two matches, Sarfarazโs name was not in it. However, Sarfaraz will not be saddened by this but will be happy. The reason for this is New Zealandโs tour of India. New Zealandโs team is coming on India tour where it will play a three-match Test series. The first match of the series is starting from 16 October which will be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Mumbai has to play its first Ranji match on 11 October. Team India will be there a few days before the match against New Zealand. In such a situation, if Sarfaraz does not get a place in the team, it clearly means that he will be a part of Team India in the Test series against New Zealand.
Shreyas Iyer has got a place in this team, but if seen, this is bad news for Iyer because it has become clear that he will not be a part of Team India in the Test series against New Zealand. At least not for the first match. Usually, the selectors announce the team for one or two matches in the domestic series.
Mumbai has to play its first match against Baroda on 11 October. The second round of Ranji Trophy is starting from 18 October in which Mumbai will face Maharashtra. The first test match between India and New Zealand will be played from 16 to 20 October. The second match will start from 24 October.
Mumbaiโs Ranji campaign starts soon, while Indiaโs Test series against New Zealand will run from 16th to 24th October.
