Rahane Continues as Captain

Mumbai will play as the defending champion and won the last Ranji trophy under the captaincy of Ajinkya Rahane. Mumbai won the Irani Cup under Rahane’s captaincy. This time also Rahane has been given the captaincy.

Sarfaraz Likely to Join Team India

When Mumbai announced its Ranji team for the first two matches, Sarfaraz’s name was not in it. However, Sarfaraz will not be saddened by this but will be happy. The reason for this is New Zealand’s tour of India. New Zealand’s team is coming on India tour where it will play a three-match Test series. The first match of the series is starting from 16 October which will be played at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Mumbai has to play its first Ranji match on 11 October. Team India will be there a few days before the match against New Zealand. In such a situation, if Sarfaraz does not get a place in the team, it clearly means that he will be a part of Team India in the Test series against New Zealand.

Shreyas Iyer has got a place in this team, but if seen, this is bad news for Iyer because it has become clear that he will not be a part of Team India in the Test series against New Zealand. Mumbai has to play its first match against Baroda on 11 October. The second round of Ranji Trophy is starting from 18 October in which Mumbai will face Maharashtra. The first test match between India and New Zealand will be played from 16 to 20 October. The second match will start from 24 October.
