Leading by Example
In a conversation with Jio Cinema, Suryakumar Yadav said, “I am enjoying the new role. Our coach and my teammates have made captaincy easy for me. I am feeling very positive about the new responsibility. Also, I don’t want captaincy to change my game, so I want to continue playing the way I have always played. I want to be the same both inside and outside the field.
Suryakumar Yadav said, “My philosophy is that I want the players to play their natural game. Express themselves the way they do while playing for their states and franchises. When you join the Indian cricket team, only the jersey changes, but the motivation to succeed remains the same. I want to be the leader of the team, not just a captain on paper. I always try to learn from my Rohit Bhaiyya and hope to implement what I have learned from my previous captains.”

Learning from Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir
Suryakumar Yadav told that he has got to learn a lot from Rohit Sharma. He said, “Watching Rohit Sharma bat in the Kanpur Test, it felt like the T20 series has started. It was a completely Rohit Sharma-style approach. Very few teams conclude losing two days of play, but winning the Kanpur Test shows great captaincy. I have learned a lot about captaincy from Rohit and I hope I will be able to implement those lessons in my leadership.”
Regarding his relationship with head coach Gautam Gambhir, Suryakumar Yadav said, “Gautam Gambhir and I have a special bond. He has always supported me. I can never forget this. Even when I do not express my feelings, he still understands me. This is very special.”
