Smriti Mandhana’s Historic Performance in ODI Cricket
Smriti Mandhana created History! Indian women’s star opener Smriti Mandhana bowled out the South African bowlers in the second ODI in a row. Smriti made a historic performance by scoring a century in the second match in a row. She also equaled the records of Sachin Tendulkar, David Warner, and Rohit Sharma. The second ODI between INDW vs SAW is being played today at the Chinnaswamy Stadium and Smriti has scored a back-to-back century.

Dominant Partnership and Record-Breaking Century
South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. Dayalan Hemaltha (24), who came back after Shafali Verma scored 20 runs, failed to make a big knock. However, Smriti and captain Harmanpreet Kaur put on a partnership of 171 runs for the third wicket while shaping Team India’s innings. Smriti completed the second century of the series and took the team to 271 for 3 in 45.5 overs. Smriti scored 136 runs off 120 balls with 18 fours and 2 sixes, while Harmanpreet is playing on 62 runs.
This became Smriti’s seventh century in ODI cricket. She tied with Mithali Raj on the list of women cricketers who have scored the most centuries in ODI cricket for India. But, Mithali had to play 211 innings for 7 centuries and Smriti played only 84 innings. Harmanpreet is third with 5 centuries in 112 innings. Smriti scored 117 runs off 127 balls in the first ODI match and after today’s century, she became the first Indian woman player to score two consecutive centuries in ODI cricket.

It was her third century in ODI cricket against South Africa, bringing her level with Charlotte Edwards and Sarah Taylor. Tammy Beaumont leads the way with 4 centuries.
