USA Triumphs Over Pakistan in a Thrilling Super Over
After the 11th match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was tied, hosts USA registered their second consecutive win by defeating Pakistan by 5 runs in the Super Over. Chasing the target of 160 runs given by Pakistan for victory, USA could only reach 159 runs in 20 overs. Therefore the match ended in a draw. After this, the USA challenged Pakistan to win by 19 runs in the Super Over. But Pakistan could score only 13 runs in the Super Over in front of the great bowler Saurabh Netravalkar. This was the USA’s second win after Canada. With this win, USA reached the top of Group A. Suited for Super 8 as well.

This was Pakistan’s first match of the T20 World Cup campaign. Therefore Pakistan was trying to start with a win. The USA won the toss and asked Pakistan to bat. Pakistan scored 159 runs in 20 overs thanks to captain Babar Azam’s 44, Shadab Khan’s 40, and Shaheen’s unbeaten 23 in the last minute. Captain Monank Singh scored 50 runs and USA chased 160 runs. Andries Gaus added 35 runs. Steven Taylor was dismissed after scoring 12 runs. After this, both Aaron Jones and Nitish Kumar kept the USA in the match.
The USA needed 15 runs in the last over. Aaron Jones hit a six at a crucial moment. Nitish took a single on the fifth ball and gave the strike. Needing 5 runs to win on the last ball, Nitish hit a four to tie the match. After this, Pakistan also failed in the super over. Chasing 19 runs, Pakistan could only reach 13 runs and lost by 5 runs. Babar Azam’s Post-Match Reflections
He said, “We could not take full advantage of the first 6 overs of the power play. We kept losing wickets in the middle overs. We needed a good partnership. We also failed to perform well in bowling against the USA in the power play. We made a comeback at the last moment. But we have to perform better in the next matches. Credit for the win goes to the USA. They were better than us and that is why they won the match,β Babar said during the post-match presentation after the match.
