Virat Kohli on Rajat Patidar: Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday announced the name of their new captain for IPL 2025. The franchise has appointed Rajat Patidar as the new captain of the team. Patidar will replace South Africaβs Faf du Plessis, who was not retained by the team last year.

Patidar was among the three players retained by RCB before the big IPL auction in November 2024 last year. This will be the first time that Rajat will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru as captain. However, he has experience leading Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (ODI).
The 31-year-old batsman signed with the franchise in 2022. Under the leadership of Patidar, Madhya Pradesh made it to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where they lost to Mumbai by five wickets last year.

At the same time, RCB head coach Andy Flower said in the program organized to make Patidar the captain, βRajat has simplicity, he cares about the people around him, we have seen closely how he has led Madhya Pradesh, we liked it very much.β
Right-handed batsman Patidar was the second-highest run-scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament after Ajinkya Rahane. He scored 428 runs in 10 matches at an average of 61 and a strike rate of 186.08. Patidar will replace du Plessis, who was released after captaining the team from 2022 to 2024. 40-year-old South African Du Plessis will play for Delhi Capitals in the upcoming season.
