Virender Sehwag Receives Special Diwali Gift: Induction into ICC Hall of Fame – A Prestigious Honor

Virender Sehwag, the former Indian cricketer, earned a reputation as one of the cricket world’s most aggressive openers. Despite the rise of aggressive batsmen in today’s T20 cricket, fans remember Sehwag’s unmatched aggression in both ODI and Test cricket through his memorable innings.

During the nationwide excitement of Diwali, the ICC honored Virender Sehwag by inducting him into the Hall of Fame, presenting him with a special Diwali gift. Joining him in this honor are former Indian women’s cricketer Diana Edalji and Sri Lankan batsman Arvind D’Silva. The inclusion of these three cricketers brings the total number of players in the ICC Hall of Fame to 112.

Virender Sehwag and Diana Edalji follow seven Indian cricketers who previously received the same honor. Bishan Singh Bedi and Sunil Gavaskar were the first inductees in 2009. Kapil Dev received the honor in 2010, followed by Anil Kumble in 2015. In 2018, Rahul Dravid secured a place, and in 2019, the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was inducted by the ICC. Vinu Mankad also joined the Hall of Fame list in 2021.

Reacting after his induction, Virender Sehwag expressed appreciation, stating, “First and foremost, I appreciate the ICC and the jury.” He also conveyed gratitude to his family, friends, fellow players, and cricket-loving fans who prayed for him.

In his cricket career, Sehwag actively scored 8,586 runs in 104 Test matches, featuring 23 centuries. Notably, he achieved the remarkable feat of hitting two triple hundreds in Tests. In ODI cricket, Sehwag took charge, scoring 8,283 runs, with 15 centuries and 38 fifties, including a memorable double-century innings. Additionally, he contributed 394 runs in 19 T20 matches.
