Asia Cup 2023: India vs Pakistan – The upcoming Asia Cup tournament will test the readiness of bowlers from the subcontinent for the 50-over format ahead of the ODI World Cup, according to the great fast bowler of Pakistan, Wasim Akram. The Asia Cup begins in Multan on Wednesday, with the first match taking place between Pakistan and Nepal. However, all eyes will be on the match between India and Pakistan scheduled for September 2 in Kandy. Akram said during an event, “Whether it’s India, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka, everyone wants to check if the bowlers are capable of bowling 10 overs because these days they’re used to bowling four overs in every match.” This time, he cautioned about the India-Pakistan team matchup.
“It’s a good idea for the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) to host the Asia Cup in the 50-over format because the World Cup will immediately follow,” Akram said. He refused to name any team as favorites but predicted that the road wouldn’t be easy for any team. “Last time, we predicted the final between India and Pakistan, but Sri Lanka ended up winning the tournament. All three teams are dangerous, and any one of them can emerge as the winner. Other teams are also participating. In the previous edition, Sri Lanka clinched the title, and India couldn’t even reach the final.
Can’t underestimate this team…
Akram said, “The match between India and Pakistan is crucial. We are aware that many people watch it, but other teams like Sri Lanka and Bangladesh cannot be underestimated either.” Akram emphasized that India has put together a well-balanced team for the Asia Cup. “I believe they are experimenting with various aspects, including providing opportunities to new players in the T20 format, and they also have a new captain,” he added. While their team is well-balanced, the challenge is not an easy one for India or any other team.
