Exceptional Centuries Light Up the Match
In this match, Smriti Mandhana (136), Harmanpreet Kaur (103*), Marijen Kapp (114), and Laura Walvaardt (103*) scored centuries. For the first time, four batsmen scored centuries in a women’s ODI match. Earlier in 2018, three centuries were scored in the match between England and South Africa. South Africa lost the match to India by just 4 runs today. With this win, India has taken a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Smriti and Harmanpreet Shine, Kapp and Wolvaardt Fight Back
South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first. Shafali Verma (20) and Dayalan Hemalatha (24) failed to play big innings. However, Smriti Mandhana and captain Harmanpreet Kaur improved Team India’s innings and shared a 171-run partnership for the third wicket. Smriti scored 136 runs off 120 balls with the help of 18 fours and 2 sixes. Harmanpreet scored an unbeaten 103 off 88 balls with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes and Richa Ghosh contributed 25 runs off 13 balls. Indian women scored 325 for 3.

In response, Tazmis Brits (5), Anneke Bosch (18), and Sune Luus (12) were out, leaving South Africa at 67 for 3. But captain Laura Walvaardt and experienced Marijne Kapp made the match tough by sharing an 184-run partnership for the fourth wicket. This partnership was broken by Deepti Sharma. Kapp returned after scoring 114 runs in 94 balls with the help of 11 fours and 3 sixes. But, Captain Laura was standing on the field. Needing 23 runs in the last 12 balls, Africa scored 12 runs in the 19th over.
Pooja Vastrakar’s Heroics in the Final Over
Africa needed 12 runs in 6 balls and everyone felt that the match was slipping from India. The over was given to Pooja Vastrakar and Laura scored a run on the first ball. Nadine de Klerk pulled the second ball for a four, causing concern among the Indian fans. But, Pooja forced Clerk (28) and Ndumiso Shangras (0) to commit mistakes in the next two balls and took wickets. The match was scored in 2 balls and Pooja gave just 1 run to India to give a thrilling victory by 4 runs against South Africa
