WPL Auction Unfolds for Second Season of Women’s Premier League.
The much-anticipated Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction for its second season is currently underway on the IPL ground in Mumbai. A total of 165 players, comprising 104 Indian and 61 foreign players, have registered for the WPL 2024 auction.
Among them, 15 players hail from allied countries, with 56 capped players and 109 uncapped players. The five participating teams have a maximum of 30 slots available, including 9 for foreign players.
A captivating bidding war took place between UP Warriors and Gujarat Giants for Australian batsman Phoebe Lichfield.
However, the Gujarat franchise, armed with the most significant budget, secured the star player with a winning bid of 1 crore.
Phoebe Lichfield, the first player to enter the 2024 auction, originally priced at Rs 30 lakh, was successfully acquired by Gujarat Giants for Rs 1 crore.
