Yuzvendra Chahal Opens Up on Divorce, Mental Health, and False Cheating Allegations

Yuzvendra Chahal on Divorce: Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has bravely spoken about a dark phase in his life that almost pushed him to the edge. In a recent interview on Figuring Out with Raj Shamani, Chahal revealed how false allegations of cheating after his divorce from Dhanashree Verma deeply affected his mental health. He said the constant blame, rumours, and media pressure made him feel broken and led to suicidal thoughts.
“I was tired of my life. I used to cry for two hours, and sleep for only two hours. It went on for 40–45 days,” Chahal shared. He admitted that he even wanted to take a break from cricket, as he was unable to focus due to his mental state. The cricketer said he opened up to close friends about how scared and mentally exhausted he felt.
“I Never Cheated” – Chahal Denies Rumours, Blames Media
Chahal also strongly denied the rumours about cheating on his ex-wife, calling them false and hurtful. He said the media portrayed a fake story just for attention and website traffic, without knowing the truth.
“When my divorce happened, people started calling me a cheater. I’ve never cheated in my life. I am not that kind of person. You won’t find anyone more loyal than me,” he said emotionally.
The 35-year-old spinner also talked about how being raised with two sisters taught him to respect women. He added that his parents always taught him the right values, and it hurt him to be wrongly portrayed by the public.
Chahal Focused on Comeback After Personal Battles
Chahal and Dhanashree got married in December 2020 and legally separated on March 20, 2025. He last played for India in August 2023 but has struggled to find a place in the team since. Despite these challenges, Chahal seems determined to make a comeback, both mentally and professionally. His openness about mental health is now being praised by fans and fellow cricketers.
