LSG’s IPL 2025 Strategy: As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season approaches, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Zaheer Khan has opened up about the team’s preparations. Underlining the importance of playing good cricket, Zaheer, who also takes on the role of bowling coach, expressed confidence in LSG’s approach and mentioned the challenges ahead.
Zaheer Khan Shares LSG’s IPL 2025 Strategy and Focus on Young Talent
The former India fast bowler took on the mentoring role at LSG after Gautam Gambhir rejoined Kolkata Knight Riders and later became the head coach of the Indian men’s team. After Morne Morkel joined Gambhir as Gambhir’s coach, in addition to mentoring, Zaheer has unofficially taken on the responsibilities of bowling coach.
Zaheer, who previously served as Mumbai Indians’ director of cricket and head of global development from 2018 to 2022, brings a wealth of experience to the Lucknow-based franchise.
LSG’s Tactical Approach for IPL 2025
Meanwhile, LSG took a big step by releasing their former captain KL Rahul ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. The franchise retained players like Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav and Ravi Bishnoi while acquiring Rishabh Pant for a historic bid of Rs 27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.
The former India cricketer spoke about the importance of these acquisitions but noted that tactical decisions will be crucial for LSG’s success in IPL 2025.

“These are all tactical things. We consider the flexibility of the format in every game. Every team likes to assess which team they are up against and what they want to get out of the game. So, we will think a lot about these things and give them importance before making a decision.
We have to play good cricket, which is the most important factor and we will think about these things. “But, whatever happens tactically, we cannot tell you that here,” he said while answering a question from CricTracker at a press conference organised by LSG.
Guiding Young Talent
As a mentor, Zaheer is especially keen to guide the younger cricketers in the team. He stressed that the IPL is a platform where upcoming talents can shine if given the right guidance.
“You can see that whenever the IPL season comes around, you will see some talk of the game. Who gets a chance to showcase their talent on this platform? So you will always see some good bowlers who have talent. And if they get good guidance, they will become good. They can use this platform well,” he added.
The 46-year-old revealed that new cricketers need to spend time with experienced players and learn from them. He also clarified that although they are overwhelmed by the standard of competition, they need to treat it as a game to move forward.
“They should not give up on what they have done before coming to the IPL. They may be overwhelmed by the grandeur of this competition, but this is a game and the way it works is that after playing a good game you get to the point and if you focus on that, you will move forward.
They have to learn as much as they can. And the amount of time you spend with experienced players and ask them how they can succeed in different situations, it helps them a lot,” Khan concluded.
