BCCI Mulls Salary Hike for Domestic Players
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is contemplating a substantial increase in the salaries of domestic players. Under consideration is a proposal to double the match fees, with the aim of ensuring parity for players not participating in the IPL.
Proposed Salary Structure for Domestic Cricketers
BCCI is considering various plans, with the consensus being that domestic players should earn at least double their current fees. It’s suggested that a player who has participated in 10 Ranji Trophy matches could potentially earn between Rs 75 lakh to Rs 1 crore annually.
Current Payment Slabs for Ranji Players
Currently, BCCI pays Ranji players based on three slabs determined by the number of first-class matches played. Experienced players, with over 40 matches under their belt, receive Rs 2.40 lakh per match, while those with fewer than 20 matches get Rs 1.60 lakh per match.

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Increases Match Fees
In a bid to support domestic cricket, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to double the match fees for its Ranji Trophy players. This decision will see experienced players earning Rs 4.80 lakh per match in the upcoming season, while other board players will receive Rs 2.40 lakh per match.
BCCI’s Efforts to Promote Domestic Cricket
BCCI has been emphasizing the importance of domestic cricket by urging fit players not part of the national team to participate in domestic matches. However, some players have prioritized IPL preparation over domestic cricket. Consequently, BCCI is devising new strategies to encourage domestic cricket participation.
Incentive Scheme for Test Players
To promote red-ball cricket, BCCI has introduced an incentive scheme in Test cricket. Players participating in more than 75% of Test matches in a year will see a significant increase in match fees, aiming to boost the allure of Test cricket among players.
Calls for Increased Ranji Fees
Former Indian cricket captain Sunil Gavaskar has advocated for a 2 to 3 times increase in Ranji players’ fees. He believes such a raise will incentivize players to focus more on red-ball cricket, potentially revitalizing interest in the traditional format.
