New questions have arisen regarding the changes made ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal Clarifies Changes in IPL’s Mega Auction.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal clarified the changes in the rules for the IPL 2025 mega auction. He said the new rules would benefit the league and would not adversely affect the teams.

IPL Retention New Rules

The BCCI recently made several changes to player retention and other rules. Teams can retain players with values set at ₹18, ₹14, ₹11, ₹18, and ₹14 crore. Restrictions on foreign players and the implementation of the impact player rule have also been introduced. According to Dhumal, these changes are for the betterment of the league and will not harm the teams.

IPL Chairman Clarifies IPL Retention Rules

“The amount for retained players has been increased so that all franchises can build strong teams. This will provide equal opportunities to all franchises. If a franchise has a great team and wants to retain players, the average value of all retained players will be the same. It can’t be that the best player gets ₹18 crore, and the fifth retained player gets only ₹5-6 crore.”

He further explained that the real value of players is determined in the auction. Match fees for players have been fixed so that those sold at lower prices can play more matches and earn more. Teams will have to set an uncapped player’s value at ₹4 crore to retain him because retaining a player signifies that he has significant potential. Regarding the impact player rule, Dhumal mentioned that it has led to higher scores in the tournament and made the games more exciting, with more all-rounders playing.

Addressing the two-year ban on players who leave the tournament. Dhumal explained that many players skip the mega auction to participate in the mini auction. Therefore, players who miss the mega auction should not suffer unduly, but they must provide a valid reason for their absence. Every franchise strives to build the best team possible, and the involvement of every player is crucial. If a player is unavailable, it impacts the team. Since cricket is a team game, players need to demonstrate 100% commitment.
