Tilak Verma in SMAT 2024: Indian team’s young batsman Tilak Verma has created a world record by scoring a century against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. 22-year-old Tilak Verma has become the first batsman to score three consecutive centuries in the T20 format.

Tilak Verma Creates World Record with Stunning Century

Tilak Verma, playing for Hyderabad, scored 151 runs against Meghalaya in just 67 balls with the help of 14 fours and 10 sixes. Earlier, he had scored centuries in the third and fourth T20 International matches against South Africa. Verma scored 107* in the third T20 and then 120* in the fourth match.

Tilak Verma achieved another amazing feat by scoring a century against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He became the first Indian male cricketer to play an innings of 150 or more runs in T20. Earlier in 2022, Kiran Navgire scored 162 runs while playing for Nagaland against Arunachal Pradesh in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.

Let us tell you that in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, Tilak Verma came out to bat at number three for Hyderabad. He came to bat in the very first over. The left-handed batsman batted at a strike rate of 225.37 and was dismissed on the last ball of the innings.

Verma made medium pacer Deepu Sangma’s condition worse. He hit 50 runs in 18 balls of Deepu with the help of six fours and three sixes. Verma shared a 122-run partnership in just 48 balls for the second wicket with Tanmay Agarwal (55).

Hyderabad’s Record-Breaking Performance

Thanks to Tilak Verma’s excellent innings, Hyderabad scored 248 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, which is its best score in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. At the same time, this was the fifth-highest score in the history of SMAT.

Meghalaya was out of breath in front of Hyderabad’s score, which collapsed for only 69 runs in 15.1 overs. In this way, Hyderabad won the match by a huge margin of 179 runs.

Tilak Verma has been retained by the Mumbai Indians for IPL 2025. He is one of five players retained by the franchise. The left-handed batsman has been secured for Rs 8 crore.
