Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin was highly impressed with Rishabh Pant’s performance in the ongoing two-match Test series against Bangladesh. He praised the wicketkeeper-batsman extensively. According to Azharuddin, Rishabh Pant is an aggressive player who always bats fearlessly, without letting the fear of getting out dominate him. He delivers his best performance without succumbing to pressure.
Pant had been away from cricket for an extended period following a car accident in December 2022. After nearly a year, he made his comeback in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Performing brilliantly for the Delhi Capitals, Pant secured his place in the Indian team for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Pant had an outstanding performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup and returned to red-ball cricket during the 2024 Duleep Trophy. He scored a brilliant century in the second innings of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai.

Mohammad Azharuddin praised Pant’s fearless approach to batting, comparing him to Adam Gilchrist and Virender Sehwag. He noted that Pant plays without worrying about the result, which sets him apart from other players. Azharuddin said, “Pant doesn’t fear getting out, and that’s what makes him special and dangerous.” According to him, Pant, like Gilchrist and Sehwag, has the ability to shift the momentum of the match with his aggressive batting.
When asked which player from his own generation Pant resembles, Azharuddin compared Pant to the legendary Kapil Dev. He remarked, “Kapil paaji never feared getting out. He was also a brilliant batsman who could hit the ball a long way. Krishnamachari Srikkanth was another player who batted fearlessly.”

After his match against England in 2022, he achieved his highest ranking of fifth with 801 points. Pant has played 34 Test matches, scoring 2,419 runs with a strike rate of 44.79. He has recorded six centuries and 11 half-centuries, excelling in countries like England, Australia, and South Africa.
